Search underway for missing Monroe teen

Amaya Cardenas, 13, was last seen wearing a black t-shirt along Pageland Highway in Monroe, according to deputies.

MONROE, N.C. — Union County deputies are searching for teen reported missing on Wednesday.

Amaya Cardenas, 13, was reported missing by her parents early Wednesday morning, deputies said.  She was last seen wearing a black t-shirt along Pageland Highway in Monroe, which is not far from the South Carolina state line.

Cardenas is described by deputies as four feet, eight inches tall, weighing 100 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Deputies believe she left her home on foot.

Deputies and detectives are tracking down all known leads.

Anyone with information on Cardenas' whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Union County Sheriff's Office at (704) 283-3789.
