Missing teen found dead in southwest Charlotte, police say

Anthony Smith, 15, was found dead on Silverleaf Road on Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The death of a teenage boy found in southwest Charlotte has been ruled a homicide, police said on Wednesday.

Human remains were found on Silverleaf Road near Old Pineville Road on Tuesday. These remains were identified as Anthony Smith, 15, on Wednesday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Smith was reported missing by his family on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Investigators determined Smith was killed by a gunshot. His death has been ruled a homicide.

CMPD is continuing to investigate this incident. More information will be released when it is available.
