Missing Union County teen found thanks to new drone, sheriff says

The drone's thermal camera located the teen in the woods near her home as temperatures dropped near freezing, investigators said.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Union County deputies used a drone to locate a missing teen in the Unionville area last weekend. officials said. 

With temperatures across the Charlotte area dropping, the family's concern grew about the missing teen. Deputies immediately searched the family's house and surrounding areas before deploying a drone equipped with a thermal camera and floodlight. 

The drone scanned the nearby woods and found the teen quickly. Deputies were able to safely score the teen back home to her family with the drone's floodlight. Sheriff Eddie Cathey thanked the group for its diligent work that quickly reunited the family.
