Mom resuscitates kid after pool accident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A powerful message from a mom who's daughter drowned at a pool party and was brought back to life moments later.

Amanda Kioukis wants her terrifying story to serve as a reminder to other parents that the unthinkable can happen to anyone.

Khloe Kioukis is your typical five year old girl. She loves to laugh, rides her bike and has a mild obsession for the movie Frozen.

She's as cute as button right. Just a few days ago that same little girl was lying in a hospital bed with tiny tubes helping her stay alive.

Last week the Kioukis family was at a small pool party- nothing special, but this one in particular was cut short.

Somehow while five year old Khloe Kioukis was in the water her heart stopped beating.

"She was lifeless," said Amanda Kioukis, Khloe's mother. "There was nothing my baby was blue and purple and it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my entire life is to hold your baby and there's nothing there."

Immediately Amanda and her friends sprung into action giving Khloe CPR.

"I just started screaming and praying and asking and begging for my child to come back," said Amanda.

Doctors say it was nothing short of a miracle. About five minutes after Khloe's heart stopped she started breathing again.

On average, there are 390 drowning deaths in the United State every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Between 2013 and 2015, an estimated 5,600 kids under the age of 15 nearly died from drowning.

"It can happen in the blink of an eye and it can happen to anyone," said Amanda.
