CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters battled flames in freezing temperatures along Monroe Road in east Charlotte overnight.
Shortly before 1 a.m., the Charlotte Fire Department responded to a building fire near 5100 Monroe Road, which is near North Sharon Amity Road.
The first firefighters to arrive could see flames even before entering the building. Fire officials issued a second alarm for additional firefighting resources at 1:10 a.m..
Firefighters were able to control the flames within 54 minutes, the department said. There were no injuries reported following the incident.
At the time of the fire, the temperature in Charlotte was 34 degrees with winds gusting at 17 mph. Combined the temperature and wind created a wind chill feeling of 27 degrees.
Monroe Road two-alarm fire in east Charlotte
The building houses several businesses, which were all closed at the time of the fire. The building sustained about $77,000 worth of property losses, according to the fire department.
