Mooresville police chief appointed assistant town manager

Ron Campurciani will continue his role as Mooresville's police chief in addition to new duties.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani was recently appointed as the assistant town manager, Mooresville officials announced this week.

Campurciani will continue to serve as Mooresville's police chief, a position he's held since 2019. He will assume leadership of E-911 communications, building, permitting and inspections, as well as facilities and asset management. His new duties began on Monday, June 24, according to a news release.

Mayor Chris Carney said Campurciani's strong leadership was the primary factor in the decision.

"He is an asset to our community and our police department," Carney said in a statement. "Handing him the reins to other areas of local government only made sense. I look forward to all the good work he'll continue to do for our town and the people who live here."

Campurciani has spent more than 35 years in law enforcement. Prior to joining Mooresville Police, he served as chief of police in West Springfield, Massachusetts. He was elected executive committee vice chair of the International Association of Chiefs of Police last October.

"The town of Mooresville is moving forward together, improving our processes, shaping our culture and developing our people," Town Manager Tracey Jerome said. “Chief Campurciani has led transformational change at Mooresville Police Department, and I am confident that he will continue to deliver exceptional results for our organization and for our community in his expanded leadership role.”

Campurciani became Mooresville's permanent police chief in December 2019. Former chief Damon Williams was put on leave shortly after the death of Officer Jordan Sheldon. He resigned one week after WCNC Charlotte's Sarah French interviewed Sheldon's family. The department was under investigation amid claims of a hostile work environment
