MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Mooresville teen who went missing Tuesday was found safe in Charlotte just two days later.
The Mooresville Police Department had asked for the public's help as detectives searched for the 16-year-old girl. She had last been seen on Tuesday at several locations in the Sugar Creek neighborhood, including a Cook Out restaurant based on video footage, according to police.
Her mother told WCNC Charlotte she spoke to her on Monday night. She said she loved her and she was in the University City area. She said not speaking to her for a day is not normal.
“She’s always been by my side and it got to a point where she wanted to take her classes virtual so she could ride with me when I work, so we are all together," the mother said.
On Monday night, the mother said her daughter's phone pinged in the University City that her Cash App profile had checked in at a gas station in the area. Just after, surveillance video showed her walking into a Microtel a few hundred feet away. The girl's father got surveillance video from the hotel. Her mother noted the girl's half-brother was with her and another man.
“My 13-year-old daughter reached out to him on social media, and he said he had no knowledge and he blocked her," she said.
Later in the evening Thursday, the teen's father reached out to WCNC Charlotte to report his daughter had been found safe. Her mother confirmed she was being checked out physically and mentally at a local hospital.
