Motorcyclist killed in Mooresville crash

Shinnville Road was closed in the area for about two hours as officers investigated the deadly crash.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Statesville man died in a motorcycle crash in Mooresville Wednesday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Shinnville Road near Weathers Creek Road in Iredell County.

A 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading north on Shinnville Road. He lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road, struck several mailboxes and overturned, officials said.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 65-year-old Scott Alexander Turner. He died at the scene. 

Shinnville Road was closed in the area for about two hours as the on-scene investigation took place. 

"The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision," a statement from highway patrol officials said.
