NASCAR community rallies behind young cancer patient

Back in May, Elijah participated in the "Catwalk for a Cause" event held by the Martin Truex Junior Foundation. Martin's long-time girlfriend Sherry Pollex was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last fall, giving the event even more meaning for Truex and Pollex, who together with many high-profile NASCAR drivers, raised funds for cancer research and children being treated at Charlotte's Levine Children's Hospital.

CONCORD, N.C. – The NASCAR community has gathered together to show their support for a 10-year-old boy who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Elijah's neighborhood threw the brave cancer patient an early Halloween party Friday. If that wasn't enough, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton showed up unannounced to hang out with Elijah and his family.

"We have three kids that had either chemotherapy or radiation this afternoon,"Pollex told WCNC at the event. "To see them here and their courage, and what they can do on the runway, it's amazing and incredible."

This week, NASCAR teams, drivers, and families took to social media to offer support for Elijah, using #PrayersForElijah. Roush Fenway Racing is honoring Elijah with a special ribbon decal celebrating his brave fight and raising awareness for childhood cancer. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
