NC man dies after four-wheeler hits deer

The man lost control of his four-wheeler after hitting a deer in the road, officials said.

BOONE, N.C. — A Boone man died after losing control when his four-wheeler hit a deer in the road on Saturday night, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

The deadly crash happened around 11 p.m. in Watauga County on Briarwood Lane near Big Hill Road.

Carl Scott Norris, 38, died at the scene.

Investigators said Norris was driving a Suzuki four-wheeler when he hit a deer in the roadway. This crash caused Norris to lose control and overturn.

He was ejected from the four-wheeler and was not wearing a helmet at the time, according to highway patrol officers.

"The initial investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing circumstances in the collision," a highway patrol spokesperson said.

During the on-scene investigation, the road was closed in the area for about two hours.
