WARRENSVILLE, N.C. — An Ashe County man died after his truck went down an embankment and overturned on Aug. 30, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened on Clint Gilley Road at Heavenly Mountain View at around 3 p.m.
The driver was identified as John Charles Shoemake of Warrensville. He died at the scene.
His truck, which was loaded with gravel, went off the right side of the road as he was trying to back up.
Officers say Shoemake was not wearing a seatbelt when he crashed. Investigators said they do not think he was speeding or impaired. On Sept. 17, Highway Patrol confirmed his truck wasn't equipped with seatbelts.
The roadway was closed in the area for about two hours during the on-scene investigation.
