CLEVELAND, N.C. — Jonathan Ramsey took a chance on a $10 scratch-off lottery ticket and won a $1 million top prize.
He bought the lucky ticket from Community Grocery on Statesville Boulevard in Cleveland, North Carolina.
He went to lottery headquarters on Wednesday to collect the winnings.
There, he faced the choice between getting the cash in $50,000 installments over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.
The North Carolina Education Lottery said Ramsey chose the lump sum of $600,000. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $429,003.
The $1,000,000 Loteria game debuted in March with four top prizes of $1 million. Three $1 million prizes are still out there, waiting to be claimed.
