A new Hickory business is aiming to spotlight local artisans

The space will feature up to 180 vendors.

HICKORY, N.C. — A new space dedicating to featuring local artists and artisans is coming to Hickory.

The Graceful Geese Mercantile is opening on April 1 on the first level of Hickory Furniture Mart, and will feature up to 180 vendors selling antiques, handcrafted goods from local artisans, and vintage selections.

Angie and Ray McGinnis, business owners in the community, will manage The Graceful Geese Mercantile.

“It has always been a dream of ours to own our own business," Angie McGinnis said. "Once Ray retired from his 30+ year career at Corning, we knew this would be the perfect opportunity for us to start our next phase in life by opening a much-needed additional space to connect our artisan community.  This will also create an opportunity for local artists to share their North Carolina craftsmanship with the rest of the world by exposing Mart customers to their incredible works of art.”

While Angie and Ray McGinnis have some juried artisans in mind already, the business is opening the call to other artisans in the area who may be interested. Artisans can schedule an appointment for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to learn more about what spaces are available and space requirements.

You can stream WCNC Charlotte on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, just download the free app.

Those interested in setting up an appointment Saturday or a future date can contact the owners at thegracefulgeese@gmail.com.
