CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There's a new owner in town at the NoDa Company Store in Charlotte, but both the original team and the new people helming the popular beer garden say patrons shouldn't expect much to change.
On Tuesday, original owners and husbands Joey Hewell and Scott Lindsley shared on Facebook that they were passing the torch to Lincolnton-based BrickTree Brewing. In their post, Hewell and Lindsley said all of their own beverages would still be sold, along with new ones from BrickTree.
"Expect to see more of BrickTree's fantastic beers alongside your old favorites, plus a whole lineup of local brewery gems. And don't worry, our sangrias, wines, and all the delicious goodies you crave will still be flowing," part of the post reads.
John Brinsfield, BrickTree's co-owner and new owner of the NoDa Company Store, also shared on Facebook Thursday that the name would stay and isn't being converted into a brewery. Instead, NoDa Company Store will still operate as its own entity.
"The only changes being made are to add a few more BrickTree beers to the tap list as well as in cans to go," he said in the post. "Along with that additional indoor seating will be added so our awesome customers can enjoy the location despite the weather."
Joey Hewell told WCNC Charlotte Thursday that this doesn't change things for the NoDa Company Canteen, which is located in Camp North End. He also affirmed that BrickTree wouldn't be making drastic changes to the NoDa Company Store.
“They don't intend to change a lot other than adding a few more of their beers. There will still be beer from other breweries, wine, sangria - maybe a few more weekday and evening events and happenings," he said.
As for why the change in ownership is happening, Hewell said he and his husband were shifting focus on the Canteen and that it was more feasible to do so for them instead of splitting focus between Camp North End and the original establishment on Yadkin Avenue.
“We have loved the years we ran the store, but have enjoyed the events-oriented business at Camp North End and didn’t really think we could give our all to both. When we started discussing options and BrickTree came up, we thought it was a good fit and good timing," he said.
BrickTree officially began running the NoDa Company Store this week, Hewell notes.
