NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. — A 14-year-old boy survived a shark attack at the North Carolina coast Sunday afternoon.
North Topsail Beach police said Blayne Brown was waist-deep in the water when a shark bit him twice on his leg and ankle.
“I was in the water, like screaming for help,” Brown told WWAY. “People just looked at me, and thought I was just screaming to be screaming. Like, I didn’t even know there was a shark that bit me. It just scared me so bad.”
WWAY reports when Brown got out of the water, bystanders on the beach applied pressure to the wound using beach towels.
Officials said Brown was taken to Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital for treatment. He may be released on Tuesday.
Brown was visiting from West Virginia.
