CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run on Sunday night.
The crash happened on North Tryon Street near Orr Road on Sunday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the roadway, according to CMPD. Preliminary data points to the victim, later identified as 62-year-old Curtis Bing, riding an electric scooter eastbound on North Tryon Street before a car traveling in the same direction hit him.
The driver of that car did not stop after hitting Bing, police said. Investigators found Bing was not wearing a helmet when he was hit.
North Tryon Street was closed in response so officers could work in the area while the investigation was happening.
Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about this case is asked to call Detective Mercedes at 704-432-2169, Ext. 5. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
