NEW YORK (AP) -- Investigators say the pilot of US Airways Flight 1549 told controllers just moments after takeoff: "We're gonna be in the Hudson."
The dramatic account came as crews attempted to remove the plane from the icy river before it sank deeper into the water.
National Transportation Safety Board member Kitty Higgins said the pilot told controllers he had struck birds. Controllers then asked if he wanted to return to LaGuardia, but he said he had no power left.
