CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former President Barack Obama visited Charlotte to encourage early voting and show his support for Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency.
The trip happened Friday, with the location of Obama's Charlotte rally shared only with those who got tickets. The rally happened around the same time Ohio Sen. JD Vance visited Monroe for a dueling town hall.
Obama used his speech to further cement Harris' campaign promises while drawing a contrast to Donald Trump, the Republican candidate and former president. One talking point made at both events involved immigration, with Obama countering conservative criticisms of the current system.
"If rounding up and deporting desperate people - women and children - is the answer to everything, why is it that the number of undocumented immigrants is the same from when [Trump] left office and took office?" he asked.
Obama also used his speech to share support for Democratic candidates down-ballot in North Carolina.
