Person dies after being hit by train in south Charlotte

CMPD is investigating the incident.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person has died after being hit by a train in south Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Department of Transportation.

The person was hit by a Norfolk Southern train, the company confirmed. It happened shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday just outside the crossing at Arrowood Road, which is near the intersection with South Boulevard.

As a result of the investigation, the right turn lanes from eastbound Arrowood Road onto South Boulevard were closed for hours, but have since reopened. 

Norfolk Southern said there were no reported injuries to the train crew.

CMPD is investigating the incident.
