Person hit, killed by car near Uptown

Police said the driver was cited for driving on a revoked license.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman has died after being hit by a car in Charlotte on Sunday.

It happened at the intersection of North Graham Street and Dalton Avenue, which is near a QuikTrip and the Charlotte Fire Department Headquarters, and just down the road from Interstate 277.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers, Charlotte Fire Department crews, and Medic responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday after reports a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle. When they arrived, they found 54-year-old Michelle Denise Onley, who was unresponsive and seriously hurt. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died on Monday. Her family has been notified.

Police believe Onley was crossing North Graham Street without using a crosswalk when she was hit by the car, which was heading south on North Graham Street.

A 2002 Ford Taurus and the driver, 25-year-old Elijah O’zion-Sadique McBride, stopped nearby. Police said impairment and speed don't appear to have contributed to the incident, but the driver was cited for driving on a revoked license.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who has information about the crash is asked to call Detective Leung at 704-432-2169 Ext. 6.
