Person killed in north Charlotte crash

The crash happened on Lakeview Road and Old Statesville Road.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person is dead following a crash in north Charlotte on Sunday morning, according to Medic.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. on Lakeview Road and Old Statesville Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told WCNC Charlotte it responded to the crash just before 7:15 a.m. in the 8600 block of Old Statesville Road.

When first responders got to the scene, they found a silver Nissan Kick with extensive damage off the road, and the driver was found outside of the Nissan. He was later identified as 30-year-old Samuel Anthony Michael Campola.

According to authorities, Campola was not wearing a seat belt when the crash happened. Preliminary investigations show Campola was driving south on Old Statesville Road when he somehow veered off the left side of the road, overturned and collided with a tree. CMPD said speed was suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about this crash is asked to call Detective Kupfer at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1.
