Man arrested in west Charlotte shooting

CMPD identified the victim and suspect in a homicide that happened on Saturday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said its homicide division arrested a suspect after a man was shot and killed near the 2200 block of Camp Greene Street in the Metro Division.

‌The shooting happened shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday Morning. 

CMPD said officers were already in the area and heard gunshots being fired. They then found Rodney Hamilton with apparent gunshot wounds near the street.

According to the department, Hamilton was transported by Medic to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

‌Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene, CMPD said. 

‌The investigation into this case led to the arrest of suspect Jamar Demontae Davis.

Davis is expected in Mecklenburg County Court on Monday morning in connection to the incident, court records show.

It came just hours after CMPD confirmed two people were shot just around the corner from each other in northwest Charlotte, Friday night. 

CMPD asks anyone with information about this incident to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
