CHARLOTTE, N.C. — City leaders got a chance to discuss the rezoning of 1.23 acres worth of land in Plaza Midwood during a city of Charlotte Zoning Meeting on Monday.
The zoning petition by SRL Central Avenue Properties, LLC is for the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Central Avenue and Morningside Drive, about a quarter of a mile from Veterans Park.
The area is currently zoned for mixed-use development-optional, or MUDD-O. The proposed zoning was to change the area to mixed-use development-optional, site plan amendment, or MUDD-O SPA. This would add residential opportunities to the allowed uses of the site, increase the square footage from 44,000 square feet to 45,000 square feet, and commit to more sidewalks around the site.
Mayor Pro Tem Danté Anderson, who represents District 1 where this sits in Charlotte, said the zoning committee voted 6-0 for approval and staff also recommended it. Anderson said the community has been in favor of the change.
"The community is fully engaged and supports this particular petition," Anderson said.
Charlotte City Council unanimously approved the petition.
