Fire in east Charlotte Friday under investigation

The Charlotte Fire Department confirmed the blaze happened at an abandoned house, and had been put out.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department said it is investigating a large house fire that broke out in east Charlotte on Friday night.

The department assisted other Mecklenburg County units in a structure fire on Plaza Road Extension, near the intersection with Brookstead Drive in east Charlotte, not far from I-485.

A firefighter at the scene told WCNC Charlotte the fire was at an abandoned house, and had been put out.

The house, which was inside city limits, was completely destroyed.

The fire department said in a statement on Saturday that no injuries were reported and added that the estimated loss was $296,000.
