CONCORD, N.C. — Christmas came early for pediatric patients at the Atrium Health Levine Children's Jeff Gordon Children Center on Wednesday as Amazon helped them feel like they were at the North Pole.
The Concord Amazon fulfillment center visited the medical center to deliver the Polar Express experience to the patients.
Santa Claus and the conductor of the Polar Express were on hand to provide hot chocolate and a screening of the holiday movie to the children in a true golden ticket moment. Amazon also brought $10,000 worth of toys and supplies for patients and their families.
"We recognize no one wants to be in the hospital and it’s especially tough on children," an Atrium Health spokesperson said in a release. "This special event and these generous donations truly help enhance the hospital experience by allowing our patients the opportunity to still be kids, which is such an important part of the care process. We are certain this day will be long remembered by our patients."
"This is something that we do throughout the year not just during the holiday season," Brett Bonnema, General Manager of the Concord Amazon Fulfillment Center said. "Our fulfillment center in Concord has volunteered more than 2,000 hours throughout the year at multiple locations. Everything from helping those who serve the homeless, to veterans organizations, and assisted living care facilities."
