Mooresville suspect found dead after shooting at deputies

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office asked people to avoid the area for several hours on Saturday.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — If you or a loved one are facing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, there is help readily available. You can call Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 or chat with them online. There are also resources in North Carolina available here and in South Carolina available here.

A Mooresville man was found dead in a home after shooting a deputy and firing his gun at multiple others on Saturday morning, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

The man who died was identified as 27-year-old Dylan Maslon.

Firefighters first went to the home on Northampton Drive around 7:30 a.m. after a family member called to say they were concerned about the man's behavior. They called the sheriff's office for help after firefighters said the man waved a knife around.

Authorities asked people to avoid the Langtree Road area near Mooresville.

Deputies said they heard yelling in the home and went inside. They were met by Maslon, who started shooting at the deputies, according to the sheriff.

Deputies shot back, took cover and tried to talk with Maslon. But, the sheriff said, Maslon kept shooting his gun.

One of the deputies was shot and taken to the hospital. That deputy is expected to be released soon.

Maslon also shot multiple law enforcement vehicles.

Some residents in the area were not able to return to their homes for multiple hours as the scene unfolded, a neighbor told WCNC Charlotte's crew on the scene.

Eventually, a robot was sent into the home. It found Maslon in an upstairs room, dead.

Authorities said he likely took his own life.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating, which is standard protocol for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

WCNC Charlotte reached out to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, which said Maslon was out on bond for multiple pending charges.

Those include: Assault on a Governmental Official, Felony Breaking or Entering to Terrorize or Injure.

The road began to reopen for traffic around noon.
