Deputies ask for help in finding driver after object thrown at windshield

The Union County Sheriff's Office is looking for a silver Ford Crown Victoria or Lincoln Continental with a black brush guard.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- The Union County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help as they look for the driver of a silver Ford Crown Victoria or Lincoln Continental with a black brush guard.

The search is fueled by what happened to Kendra Wells as she drove home to her family on Sunday, around 6:15 p.m.

The mother of two was near the busy intersection of Weddington & Willoughby road in Monroe when someone inside the car in question, threw an object at Kendra's windshield.

“This car coming towards me threw something orange out of the window and it hit right in front of my face, shattered the glass," she told NBC Charlotte. "It made the loudest sound I have ever heard in my life!”

She called it "shocking" and "terrifying" as the indention on her windshield looks like it came from a basketball. Police say they didn't find any suspicious objects on scene and Kendra said it flew too fast.

"I was going 55 this way, they were coming 55 [the other] way," she said.

Kendra is thankful for her sons were at home with her husband, instead of in the car.

"It freaked me out enough, I can’t imagine what it would do to a nine and ten-year-old."

When the object struck the windshield, it sent shards of glass everywhere, just inches from her eyes.

“I had cuts all over me, glass embedded in my hand, my arm, my neck and some in my face."

Kendra is grateful to be alive she knows her wounds will heal but her family will feel the financial strain of this situation for months.

"The thing that bothers me most about this is you know, when you’re in a car accident with another person, you exchange insurance information and everything. These people, they just drove away. Right now, we’re left with a $500 deductible to cover this windshield," she said.

Police are looking out for the driver of the silver Ford Crown Victoria or Lincoln Continental with a black brush guard and they're asking if anyone sees a car in Union County that resembles the one in question, to call police.

"You may think it is a harmless prank to do something like that but you really could’ve killed somebody by doing this, it’s just not worth it."
