1 person killed, several injured during violent weekend in Charlotte

CMPD responded to multiple shootings over the course of the weekend.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed and multiple people were hurt during a violent weekend in Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department conducted a homicide investigation in the 4200 block of Trailer Drive on Saturday night. This is located in north Charlotte. When officers arrived just after 11 p.m., they found a person dead. The victim was identified as 47-year-old Glandina Latamba Dixon. 

CMPD described the nature of the Dixon's injuries as "trauma" but did not specify the nature of the injuries. Sam Roary, 53, was arrested by CMPD's SWAT team on Sunday. Roary has been charged with murder. He first appeared in court Monday morning, and no bond was authorized. 

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.

Dixon's death was one in a series of violent crimes CMPD investigated this weekend.

Saturday morning around 6 a.m., CMPD responded to South Tryon Street near Westinghouse Boulevard and found a man who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to Hamilton Street just north of Uptown after two people were shot. Both people had life-threatening injuries. Then late Sunday night, two people were shot on Fortune Street, which is near Bojangles Coliseum. One person has life-threatening injuries and another person has minor injuries, according to Medic. 

CMPD also responded to a shopping center off Rea Road near Ardrey Kell Road on Sunday night, where a 17-year-old and two 18-year-olds had injuries from gunshot wounds. The 17-year-old had minor injuries, while the other two victims had serious injuries. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Monday around 1:30 a.m., Medic confirmed one person was being treated for minor injuries after a shooting near the intersection of East 12th Street and North Brevard Street, just down the road from Optimist Hall.
