PINEVILLE, N.C. — Police responded to Carolina Place Mall on Black Friday after a fight broke out, Pineville Police confirmed.
Pineville Police responded to the fight around 4:40 p.m. Friday. The fight involved two unidentified groups, officials said.
Officers working off-duty at the mall arrived and, within seconds, police say both groups dispersed.
"To have a big group, two large groups of people, you know, not acting, behaving very well is a little concerning," said Susan Pettus, manager of SAS Shoes.
There was one report that someone had flashed a handgun, but Pineville Police said that report remains unconfirmed.
Pineville Police confirmed there was not a shooting at the mall and there is no threat to the public.
"You're out trying to get your holiday shopping done and thinking what you can buy for someone special," Pettus said, "To have something like this happen is pretty bad."
A few of the stores in the immediate area were placed on temporary lockdown after the fight, Pineville Police said. The lockdown was lifted after the entire mall was swept and deemed safe by Pineville Police and Mall Security.
Police are still investigating the fight call, but the mall is open for businesses as usual.
"We try to avoid like large places with crowds and etc., just you know, things can happen," said Pat Mellon, a potential shopper. "So yeah, we usually don't congregate where there's large amounts of folks."
At this time, it's not clear if any arrests were made. No other information has been released at this time.
