Police: Woman hit and killed by drunk driver

A woman accused of driving drunk hit and killed a woman trying to cross the street in Charlotte's Noda neighborhood, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman accused of driving drunk hit and killed a woman trying to cross the street in Charlotte's Noda neighborhood, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

Investigators say a woman was trying to cross the street Thursday night in the 3500 block of N. Tryon Street near Guy E. Suddreth Avenue.

The victim has been indentified this afternoon as Rosemarie Lyle, 55.

Lyle stepped off the curb into the right outbound lane when she was hit by a 2000 Honda Accord.

She was taken to the hospital and later died at 12:14 a.m Friday morning.

The driver of the car stopped in a nearby parking lot and returned to the scene of the accident, according to police. After a field sobriety test, Melissa Wooten, 29, was arrested.

Police have charged her with involuntary manslaughter, DWI, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
