ROCK HILL, S.C. — Following the assassination attempt of former president Donald Trump, a group in York County met Sunday to hold a prayer vigil for the country.
The event was led by “24/7 Prayer York County” and was held at Fountain Park in Rock Hill.
Hands were held, eyes were closed, and heads were bowed to wish the best for Trump and everyone involved with the situation.
“We want unity and no division," Andy and Lisa Tonkin, the leaders of the vigil, said. "We want to be able to come together and there’s power in that. For Trump – like what happened – we just pray that God would continue to draw close to him. You know, it was a miracle, he was protected, he was spared.”
The Tonkins explained that they wanted to pray for guidance and unity for the country at a time when it seems it’s needed most.
“The events of last night were weighing on our hearts – a lot of fear, a lot of division. So, we just wanted to come today and pray for the peace of the Lord, for unity, and for God’s will to be done. We’re going to continue to pray, we’re not going to stop. With the events that are happening and there are so many things in this world.”
