Providence Road closed in Weddington after crash

A crash caused power poles and wires to fall onto the roadway.

WEDDINGTON, N.C. — Providence Road is closed in Weddington after a crash brought down power poles and wires late Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:20 p.m., a truck ran into a power pole, officials confirmed to WCNC NBC Charlotte. Wires from the pole fall onto a truck and the roadway.

Traffic is being diverted off of Providence Road because of the crash, which happened near Weddington Road. Commuters driving southbound will find Providence Road closed at Rea Road. Drivers can use Tom Short Road or Weddington-Matthews Road as alternate routes. 

The road is expected to be closed for several hours. 

Residents report power, cable television, and cable Internet were out in the area.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
