STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A registered sex offender in Statesville was arrested over the weekend after authorities learned he had a personal Facebook page.
Robert Babson, Jr., 37, was arrested for violating the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection laws, which prohibit registered sex offenders from joining social networking sites that allow minors to be members.
Iredell County detectives arrested Babson at his Statesville home on Saturday.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, registered sex offenders are allowed to join websites, including dating sites, which only allow members over the age of 18.
