CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina Congresswoman Alma Adams held two "State of the District" events near Charlotte on Thursday to discuss key federal issues impacting the area.
"People are going to see a number of improvements as we move ahead," Congresswoman Alma Adams said during her State of the District speech on Thursday.
Halfway into her two-year session, Congresswoman Alma Adams said there are still plans to help enhance the lives of those in District 12.
In her speech, Adams assured residents like Michael Bowling that they were not alone.
"It was important to come out and learn what they're doing and what their plans are for the future," Bowling said.
Adams also touted some of the progress made last year, including securing $162 million in funding for District 12, with $17 million going towards infrastructure projects on roads and bridges. She also said she's moving forward with the American Neighborhood Protection Act, to prevent corporations from buying up homes amid the home shortage.
"If you got 75 houses that you purchased, there's going to have to be funding that you are going to put in to help people who are first-time homeowners," Bowling said.
Addressing key issues like hunger, Adams assured residents that she would continue her fight to protect SNAP and WIC benefits.
"Hunger is really something that we see, especially child hunger," Bowling said. "Charlotte has a lot of food health deserts."
Amid Adam's fight to end hunger, she said she’s also looking to provide incentives for farmers and increase access to healthcare.
One of Thursday's events was held for residents of Cabarrus County at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center. Then, Adams addressed the public at Mallard Creek High School that evening.
