Rev. Billy Graham brought home to Charlotte

Reverend Billy Graham was brought home to Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Reverend Billy Graham was brought home to Charlotte Saturday afternoon.

Family and friends were at the Billy Graham Library to watch as the hearse arrived after a three-hour motorcade down from the mountains he loved so much.

Leighton Ford is married to Jean Graham Ford. She is the younger sister of Rev. Graham.

Leighton said the family was touched by the outpouring of love and well-wishes from the hundred who lined the route to watch the motorcade.

"My goodness, we have the privilege of having someone in our family who has had that kind of influence," Leighton said.

Franklin Graham, the son of Rev. Graham, led the family members behind the casket as it was moved inside the Library.

Saturday was reserved for a private family business. Next week, however, the family will share Billy Graham with the nation once more.

Next Monday former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura will visit the casket and the Graham family. A family spokesperson told NBC Charlotte that President Trump will attend the funeral on March 2.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the young boy who grew in a house on a Charlotte dairy farm on Park Road will lie in honor in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol.

Leighton Ford said the pomp and circumstance might not have pleased the man in the humble wooded casket crafted by convicts. Rev. Graham is expected to be buried not in a fancy cathedral but in a tent in a parking lot.

"Billy said many times, 'it's too much about me,' because he didn't want it to be about him," Leighton said.
