CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People in Charlotte's Steele Creek neighborhood are looking for solutions to the dangers they see at one particular intersection.
South Tryon Street and Moss Road may just look like a busy road, but for drivers, it can be a mess, according to nearby residents.
Sandy Jankowski lives near the roadway and described it as "horrible." Jay Lane also lives near the intersection and added, “The traffic, it goes so fast. It goes so fast, and you can randomly come up and there's cars turned over."
Both residents have concerns about the roads - and for Jankowski - she is also worried about distracted drivers.
“Some man was on a cell phone, and he came all the way into the crosswalk," she said. "Had I not had this walker, I might have been a little wobbly and fallen, or he might have hit me."
Both claim crashes are happening constantly at the intersection.
"We've been here since September and we've seen three cars on that very corner turned over," Lane said.
These residents are hopeful a safe solution can be found sooner rather than later.
"If I could take the long way around, I would," Lane said. "Tryon, I think, just needs to slow down period.”
Jankowski would like to see more law enforcement enforcement but notes that may not be practical.
"You need policemen here and policemen have other things to do than sit and wait for somebody to make a traffic offense," she said.
Drivers seeing issues with this or other intersections in Charlotte can request the city evaluate the roadway safety.
