ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Communities in Rowan and Iredell counties are mourning the loss of two firefighters who died in a crash.
Two firefighters with the Rowan-Iredell Volunteer Fire Department were killed in an ATV crash in West Virginia, officials said on Sunday.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Office confirmed that firefighters Daniel Sell and Jacob Steele were the two firefighters who died in the crash.
"Their families are a big part of the West Rowan Community," the Rowan County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. "Such a sad situation."
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends!" the town of Cleveland, North Carolina, wrote on Facebook. "We pray that all find peace and comfort during this difficult time."
Community members are supporting Sell and Steele's families on Tuesday with an escort from West Virginia to a funeral home in Salisbury.
No further information has been released on the crash.
