A man wanted in connection with the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl was taken into custody Friday night in Charlotte.
Authorities said 28-year-old Jake Robert Kelly was being processed and would be taken to the Rowan County Detention Center. The teenage girl, Lauren Haynes of China Grove, was safe in the custody of law enforcement, deputies said.
Kelly is facing a number of charges including indecent liberties with a minor. Kelly is currently being held in the Rowan County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. Additional charges are possible.
Following additional investigation completed on December 23, Kelly is now facing more charges, including first degree kidnapping and five counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor.
The bond for Kelly was increased another $150,000 from the original amount. He is currently being held under a $250,000 secured bond to await his court date, December 27.
Detectives said Haynes disappeared from her home around 3 a.m. Thursday. Authorities determined she met Kelly and went to Statesville with him.
Rowan County investigators and Iredell County deputies searched for the pair in the Statesville area but were unsuccessful.
