Search teams return decade after NC man disappears

Volunteer search teams are combing the rural landscape to try once more to look for the remains of a mentally handicapped North Carolina man who disappeared a decade ago.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. (AP) -- Volunteer search teams are combing the rural landscape to try once more to look for the remains of a mentally handicapped North Carolina man who disappeared a decade ago.

The searchers and dog tracking teams return to a stretch of U.S. 301 in Cumberland County on Friday to close the case of Kent Jacobs' disappearance. It is one day short of 10 years since the 42-year-old Jacobs disappeared after leaving his mother's house in Hope Mills.

The Jacobs family is hoping to find answers and closure as search teams return to the area near Interstate 95 that they spent hours combing in 2002.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and a lead detective will be on hand to help.
