CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A school bus appeared to be at the wrong place at the wrong time Friday afternoon, as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say shots rang out near the bus' driving route in west Charlotte.
CMPD says the shooting took place near Remount Road and West Boulevard.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says the bus was #1650 from Sedgefield Elementary School and was carrying 19 students; no students were injured.
A witness told NBC Charlotte's crew on the scene that she heard about nine gunshots.
CMPD says they did not locate a shooting victim but did recover spent casings.
A vehicle nearby backed into the school bus and fled the scene; that driver was quickly detained and no injuries were reported in the collision.
