LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Skeletal remains found in Lancaster on Tuesday are believed to be those of a man who was reported missing in June, investigators said.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office responded to a construction site along West Manor Drive when workers reportedly found human remains in the woods. Multiple crews arrived a short time later to collect the remains and take them to the coroner's office for an autopsy.
Investigators haven't positively identified the remains but evidence at the scene suggests they are the body of Ricky Ray Wright, who was reported missing on June 11. Deputies say they aren't looking for any suspects and there's no evidence of foul play. The victim's cause of death and identification of the remains are pending the autopsy.
"It appears these are the remains of Ricky Wright," Sheriff Barry Faile said in a news release. "If that is correct, we're sorry our efforts to locate him did not produce a different result, and our condolences are extended to his family and friends."
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office at 803-283-3388.
When Wright disappeared, deputies noted he lived in Lancaster and was known to leave home for a few days at a time. When away, he sometimes would stay in motels both in town and in Fort Lawn.
However, he also had medical conditions that required medication he was likely not taking.
