CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte city leaders unanimously approved a rezoning petition for a mixed-use project at the corner of Selwyn Avenue and Park Road during Monday's City Council meeting.
The petition, filed by 3G Investments and Developments, aims to facilitate a mixed-use development with residential and commercial space on 0.79 acres in south Charlotte. The property sits along the east side of Park Road and the south side of Selwyn Avenue. Charlotte's zoning committee voted 6-0 in favor of the petition in October. City Council unanimously approved the petition on Monday.
City Councilman Tariq Bokhari credited the developer for meeting with residents to address community concerns about the project.
"They all don't start out perfect, but this was a good example of a lot of work since we last heard about it," Bokhari said.
The petition is not consistent with Charlotte's 2040 Policy Map, but planning and zoning officials recommended moving forward with it once concerns about transportation and land use were answered. The project is near the Park Selwyn shopping center, which includes a Harris Teeter supermarket and several small businesses.
