CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters confirmed two family pets died in a house fire in south Charlotte Friday morning, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
It happened on Turnberry Lane, which is not far from South Mecklenburg High School off Park Road.
Charlotte Fire crews arrived at the house around 9 a.m. Friday and faced heavy smoke conditions from the house's attic space.
All three residents in the home were evaluated for smoke inhalation, and one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire was controlled in 40 minutes and, after an investigation, was determined to be accidental. It happened in the utility room of the home, according to Charlotte Fire, and was caused by a failure of "an unspecified energized electrical component."
The fire department confirmed two dogs died in the home during the fire. The estimated cost of damage is around $55,000.
