STATESVILLE, N.C. — Helene has left many families in destruction, devastation, and darkness across North Carolina.
Now the Statesville community is coming together to help those in need.
"It's a way to do something to help our community," Sherrie Anderson, a resident living in the area, said.
Anderson has now allowed her home to be a drop-off location to help receive donations.
"They needed the extra help so we just volunteered, that way many more people who want to help can," Anderson said.
All donations will be dropped off at the Statesville Regional Airport on Airport Road. Many others also waited in line for hours to contribute.
"We were three lanes wide with cars coming in where our checkpoint," Matt Aschbrenner, one of the organizers, said.
The donations were delivered by trailers, trucks, and planes. It's a sign of hope for people who need it most.
"We are not done with you guys, we are not done," said Aschbrenner.
Community leaders say donation drop-offs will continue at the airport on Monday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Aschbrenner said right now some of their biggest needs are things like water and baby formula.
