Man killed in Catawba County motorcycle crash

The deadly crash happened just before midnight on Friday.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Statesville man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Catawba County, Friday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

The man was identified as 56-year-old Wesley Todd Crawford.

The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. on Oxford School Road. 

Crawford was driving his motorcycle north and crossed the center line of the road, investigators said. He drove off the left side of the road and overturned.

Crawford died at the scene of the crash.

"The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision," highway patrol investigators said. 

The roadway was closed in the area for about two hours, while the on-scene investigation took place.
