Victim identified after deadly crash in Steele Creek

This is the second fatal crash on S. Tryon St. near Nevada Blvd. this month.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A deadly accident between a car and garbage truck was under investigation in Steele Creek Saturday afternoon, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

It happened in the 9900 block of S. Tryon St. near Nevada Blvd. just before 2 p.m. Police said the driver of the car turned onto Tryon from Nevada heading south in the northbound lanes.

As the driver turned right and tried to cross the grass median, the car collided with the truck traveling northbound.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Colby Charles Davis. Alcohol use was suspected, and test results were pending, according to police. The truck driver was not hurt.

At the time of the accident, drivers were advised to use John Price Rd. or Westinghouse Blvd. as alternate routes.

This is the second fatal crash at that intersection this month. Anyone with information about this case should call 704-432-2169, ext. 6.
