Student in custody after loaded gun, knife brought to Clover High School, district confirms

The district says someone saw the weapons and immediately notified school staff. No threats were made to anyone on campus.

CLOVER, S.C. — A Clover High school student is now in custody after a loaded handgun and knife were brought to campus, according to the Clover School District.

The York County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the student did not make any threats to anyone on campus.

The district says someone saw the weapons and immediately notified school staff. The school's resource officer detained the student and confiscated the weapons.

Clover High School was put on Hold Protocols as the student was removed from the building, according to the district. Classes did resume.

"We commend all individuals who made the staff aware of this situation," the statement reads. "As is always stated, we ask that if you see or hear something, say something. That is exactly what occurred today."

The Sheriff's office says the student is under the age of 18 and that the investigation is in its early stages. No reason for why the weapons were brought to campus have been released as of publication.
