CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Piedmont Natural Gas and Charlotte Fire stopped by Druid Hills Academy on Friday to drop-off hundreds of Halloween goodie bags that include candy and natural gas safety information.
As part of Piedmont Natural Gas' safety campaign, they included scratch-n-sniff cards in the candy packages that kids can scratch to see what natural gas smells like.
The initiative aims to make it easy to identify natural gas smells to help keep the students and their families safe.
Firefighters and Piedmont technicians also spoke to students about fire safety in recognition of National Fire Prevention Month.
The fire department brought along their therapy K-9’s.
"These professional pups provide emotional support to local first responders and help with fire safety education programs," the department said.
