MATTHEWS, N.C. — Friday, a substitute teacher and a student at Butler High School in Matthews got in an altercation. It was all caught on camera.
The Butler High School principal put out a message to parents warning them that the fight would likely be all over the news. Now, the family of the student is calling on the community to come to her defense.
In the video, you can hear someone yell "don't touch me." Seconds later, a shove turns into a tussle between a substitute teacher and a student.
Human resources have since gotten involved in the incident. The student's family claimed on an online petition that it was the substitute teacher that started the dispute.
Three days later, another dispute between a teacher and a student was caught on camera. This time at Mallard Creek High School.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools confirmed a student threatened and assaulted a staff member at Mallard Creek Monday morning.
According to the most recent report from the Department of Education, 10% of public school teachers reported being threatened by one of their students, 6% say they were actually attacked by a student.
The family of the girl from Butler High said the student is now accused of assault on staff. It could stop her from graduating early.
Her family wants that punishment to come off her record, and the teacher out of a classroom.
According to Matthews Police, the School Resource Officer was already on campus and immediately responded to the incident. So far, neither party has filed charges.
