Suspect arrested for intentionally setting house fire in University City area, officials say

The fire happened at a house on Somerset Springs Drive, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators have determined a two-alarm fire at a home in northeast Charlotte was intentionally set.

The fire happened on Somerset Springs Drive just east of North Graham Street around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

A second alarm was struck for the fire minutes later. The fire was under control by 6:00 a.m., according to officials.

The fire displaced four people. They will receive assistance from the Red Cross. No firefighters were injured. The estimated property and content loss is over $345,000, according to officials.

The suspect accused of intentionally setting the fire was arrested. Investigators have not released their name or the charges they will face. Officials say the fire injured the suspect but did not say the extent of their injuries. 

More information will be released when it is available. The fire remains under investigation by the Charlotte Fire Department.
